According to information reaching here from Kovno, Helena Khatskeles, a distinguished Yiddish writer, has just celebrated her 90th birthday. Miss Khatskeles is the author of a large number of beautifully written children’s stories and is a pioneer in this field among Yiddish writers. She has also written several books of studies in education and other essays, all in Yiddish. During the war years, she was evacuated to the Soviet Union but returned to her native Kovno after the war where she now lives in retirement.
