Jewish members of the War Economic Advisory Council formed recently by the Palestine Government abstained from participating in today’s first session of the Council as an expression of their dissatisfaction with the fact that Jewish organizations were not consulted on the formation of this new body.
The formation of the Council was announced early this month by High Commissioner Sir Harold MacMichael, who said that its functions will be to coordinate the work of various government departments in connection with civilian economic activities. Four places in the Council were given to Arabs, four to Jews and two to Britons. The two English members are to hold the posts of chairman and secretary, the High Commissioner stated.
