Thirty-five local families pledged themselves to adopt at least one German-Jewish child at the annual meeting here yesterday of the members of the Milwaukee Jewish Orphan home asociation.
The Home itself has already voted to take in 15 such children between the ages of five and ten, and a committee is now negotiating with federal government officials for permission to bring these youngsters into the country.
All told, Milwaukee will thus be accepting at least 50 children of the victims of the Nazi terror, with the possibility that even more local families may volunteer later to receive and care for such “orphans.”
Another meeting on this relief plan is to be held within a few days by the executive board of the home. At today’s session, all officers of the orphan home were re-elected. They are. Joseph Brindis, president; Frank Grossman, vice president; Raymond Skribner, secretary, and Joseph Grossman, transurer.
