The defeat of the Nashashibi party in the Jerusalem municipal elections has created a new situation in Palestine, with both the Jews and the Arabs opposing the creation of a legislative council, Near East and India, influential British periodical, reported today in a dispatch from Jerusalem.
Reports stating that Palestine government has decided not to proceed with the organization of a legislative council are based on this new orientation of Palestinian politics, the paper stated.
According to Near East and India, the defeat of Ragheb Bey’s party has not only resulted in the elimination of a pro-British element, but also has caused the Nashashibi group to decide to abstain from participation in a legislative council, on which the Palestine government was counting heavily.
