Jewish leaders here today appealed to the Austrian press to take up the cause of the Jews in the negotiations for restitution with the Austrian Government.
The plea was carried by Neue Welt, newspaper of the Vienna Jewish Community, and only Jewish weekly in the country. Expressing gratification that Socialist and People’s Party deputies frequently call for satisfaction of Jewish restiution claims, Neue Welt points out, however, that these sympathetic words are not followed by deeds. It also underlines that making restitution is the responsibility of the entire Austrian Government rather than any specific party.
