Jewish leaders and Army officials today agreed to consider closed” an incident involving American soldiers and displaced Jews during which a number of the latter were assaulted and injured in a local Jewish res(##)aurant last week.
The decision was reached at a conference attended by Brig. Gen. Josiah (##)lby, commander of the Munich area, Col. George Burgess, Provost Marshall, Rabbi (##)erander Rosenberg, military government liaison officer, and Rabbi Issal Ziemba, president of the local Agudas Israel group, 40 of whose members were involved in the (##)lee. All participants in the parley expressed the belief that better relations between the Jews and the troops would result from the “unfortunate incident.”
Col. Burgess will address a formation of all military police in the area Friday and will point out to them that their duty is to protect not harrass the DP’s (##) also revealed that he had agreed to a request from Rabbi Ziemba to drop charges against the German woman who started the riot and against sundry troops who were (##)ccused of having beaten the Jews. Rabbi Ziemba stated that the Jews were not vin(##)ictive, and preferred a better understanding with the troops to punishment.
