A decree prohibiting Jews from employing Christian maids under 40 years of age was announced officially today. The decree, similar to one enforced in Germany under the Nuremburg Laws, had been previously announced by Georg Cuza, Public Works Minister, but had been repudiated by Premier Goga. Protest against the repudiation, voiced by Alexander Cuza, Minister Without Portfolio and father of the Public Works Minister, resulted in the official announcement.
The official announcement of the decree states: “In view of numerous cases where it was found that Jewish employers hire young Christian girls with the object of prostituting them, we decide, firstly, that all Jews are prohibited from hiring and keeping as servants Christian women below the age of 40, secondly, that the labor exchanges shall refuse all engagements contrary to the above provisions, thirdly, the director of labor is charged with fulfillment of this decision.”
The Federation Of Professional Unions, comprising doctors, engineers, lawyers, architects, artists, teachers and other professional men, has decided to petition the Government requesting complete “Romanization” of the free professions.
