The appointment last week of Lord Moyne, former Colonial Secretary, to the post of British Deputy Minister of State in the Middle East “is noted with consternation and deep anxiety” in Jewish circles, according to a statement issued here today by the Emergency Committee of the New Zionist Organization.
“Lord Moyne, as Colonial Secretary, revoked the promise of his predecessor for the creation of Jewish military units in Palestine,” the statement says. “In his recent speech in the House of Lords, he even aligned himself with Hitler’s proposal for the settlement of Jews in Madagascar instead of Palestine. His appointment will be received by the Jewish people with regret and apprehension.”
