The Nazi-directed spring employment campaign begins tomorrow under the leadership of Chancellor Adolf Hitler, who today appealed to all German employers that they create as much extra work as possible.

The Berlin Jewish community issued an appeal today to Jewish employers to respond to the call from the “highest authority for making work,” which they declared is “directed to the entire German nation, including ourselves.”

“The Reich government has clearly stated that the economic life of the nation is not subject to other considerations than the economic laws,” the Jewish community appeal said. “The Reich government does not want the ‘Aryan paragraph’ in economic life, therefore Jewish employees are not barred and every unemployed worker put to work relieves the general burden.

RUNDSCHAU APPEALS

“We appeal to Jewish employers to engage Jewish unemployed through our Jewish employment exchange.”

The Juedische Rundschau, organ of the German Zionists, also appealed to German Jewry to collaborate in creating work for the unemployed, which the paper declared, was of supreme importance for Jewish youth.

“Practically the whole of German Jewish youth now realizes that their future, whether in Germany or in foreign countries and particularly in Palestine, lies in manual work,” the Rundschau declared. “This is especially true of agriculture and artisanship, which the German Jewish youth is taking up joyfully in the true spirit of the Chalutzim, who in all countries are creating a new outlook for Jewish life.”

The spring employment campaign, which is merely a continuation of the winter employment drive is designed to spread employment so that the greatest number of Germans possible are employed, even if only at a nominal wage. Like all Nazi campaigns, the employment drive is conducted with all the skilled propaganda of which the Nazis are capable.

According to Nazi figures, which are seriously questioned by foreign economists, their campaign has resulted in a considerable decrease in the number of German unemployed.
