In sorrow and desperation, the Jews of this old city on whom the brunt of the Nazis’ ceaseless anti-Jewish agitation has fallen most heavily, are deserting their homes and businesses en masse and Nuremberg will soon be a city without Jews.
Leaving behind all their chattels and goods, the Jewish population, quickened by the ever-growing menace to their well-being resulting from the incessant incitement to anti-Jewish violence in the local press, particularly in Der Stuermer, the newspaper edited by Julius Streicher, Nazi chieftain, is frantically making every effort to find refuge in other cities.
Many are fleeing with but a small amount of clothing, turning over the keys of their homes and shops to shipping offices with the hope that these will obey instructions and pack and ship their furniture and possessions after them.
Der Stuermer, which approaches Dr. Joseph Goebbels’ Der Angriff in the pitch and intensity of its anti-Jewish violence, rejoices at this mass emigration of Jews from the city. Under a headline, “The Jews Are Leaving Us,” the newspaper today tells its readers how “every day another Jew house in Nuremberg is evacuated,” and, also, how busy the transfer agencies are in transporting the possessions of Nuremberg Jews to Palestine and other countries.

Due mainly to the activities of Streicher, who was the organizer of the one-day boycott against the Jews in April and who is responsible for the recent arrest and parade through the city of 300 of the city’s leading Jewish citizens, the Jews of Nuremberg have had to suffer a series of attacks and insults surpassing in ferocity those borne by most of the Jews of the Reich.
Reports that the storm troopers were plundering Jewish homes in Nuremberg and had clashed with police and Reichswehr guards who had sought to maintain a semblance of order were semi-officially denied Wednesday. Nuremberg is to be the seat of this year’s National Socialist Party convention.
