The Maxim Gorky, largest airplane in the world which is creating a sensation here in its flight over the Red Square, where a demonstration is being held for the Chelyushkin expedition, is the achievement of Michael Kolzov, a Jewish journalist on the editorial staff of the Pravda.
Kolzov initiated the movement for a culture and propaganda-carrying airplane such as the Maxim Gorky is. Kolzov organized 30,000 Soviet journalists, who pledged payment of a percentage of their salaries in order to start the fund for the plane, which was built with money raised among the people. A number of organizations, including the Society for the Establishment of Jews on Land, contributed tens of thousands of rubles, while Jewish artisans gave about 100,000 rubles toward construction of the airship.
The Maxim Gorki has a printing press, its own electric dynamo and a radio broadcasting station aboard.
