More than 1,000 Algerian Jews have left for Israel so far this month, it was reported here today by a visitor who had just returned from Algeria. The informant, whose name was with held, met with Jewish leaders in Algeria. He said that Algerian Jews were also leaving for France.

The Algerian rebel organization has been trying to calm the European community and the Jews in recent days, asking them to stay in Algeria after independence is achieved and assuring them they would be useful and would be granted all necessary rights.

Many Algerian Jews, however, were reported as unwilling to accept the risk and as desperately trying to put their affairs in order so they could leave within a few months. They are hampered because of the difficulty of selling properties and businesses under present swiftly changing conditions.
