Asserting that Jews in America are living “in an invisible yet real ghetto,” Prof. L. Namier, former political adviser of the executive of the Jewish Agency in London, today challenged the theory advanced by some anti-Zionists in England that assimilationism has proven successful. Writing in the Manchester Guardian he declares that there is more anti-Semitism in America, Canada and South Africa now than there was 30 years ago in Germany and in Hungary.
Prof. Namier criticizes these rabbis who oppose the establishment of a Jewish State in Palestine. Charging them with “the desire to reproduce galuth even in Palestine,” he asks: “Should Jews become Arabs, or call themselves Hebrew-speaking Poles, or Hebrew-speaking Lithuanians, Rumanians, etc?”
