Belsen, Germany, 4/25/1950. (JTA) — A meeting celebrating the fifth anniversary of the liberation of German Jews by the British Army was attended here today by Jewish leaders and British officials of the military and civil administration in the British zone.
Brigadier J. Hinde, Deputy Commissioner for Lower Saxony, highest ranking British Official at the celebration, paid tribute to the Jewish victims of the Nazis, while M. Piper, Assistant Commissioner for Luneburg, spoke warmly of the state of Israel. Sam Haber, Joint Distribution Committee director for Germany, Alex Easterman, of the World Jewish Congress, and Norbert Wollheim, chairman of the Jewish communities of the British zone, also spoke.
