The Canadian Ministry of National Defense has instructed service authorities to grant leave to Jewish personnel in the Canadian armed forces for the forthcoming High Holy Days in line with past practices.
The Ministry’s instructions followed a communication by Rabbi S. M. Zambrowsky of the Canadian Jewish Congress religious welfare committee to G. R. Pearkes, Minister of National Defense. The CJC communication reviewed the holiday dates, requested that men be given sufficient leave to reach their homes for the holidays or nearby communities where the CJC would make arrangements for home hospitality and synagogue worship for them.
