A decision to launch a $500,000 campaign for various Jewish needs in this country and abroad was adopted here today by the Central Committee of Jewish Institutions.
Eighty percent of the funds raised will be allocated to Israel, while half of the remaining $100,000 will be used to aid Jewish refugees in Cuba. The balance will be divided among various other organizations, including the HIAS, ORT and the World Jewish Congress.
This is the largest campaign ever launched among Jews in Cuba. The biggest sum ever raised for Jewish purposes in this country was $80,000. In deciding to launch a $500,000 campaign, Jewish leaders here also agreed to apply “sanctions” of a social nature against those Jews who may refuse to make increased contributions.
