The Fonds Sociale Juif Unifie today launched an appeal to all Jews in France to join in a special campaign to rescue Algerian Jewish children.
The FSJU, which comprises most Jewish social and welfare organizations in France, asked Jewish families to temporarily receive Jewish children now fleeing Algeria without their families. Several hundred such children have arrived in this country during the past few weeks. The organization asked families unable to take in Algerian Jewish refugee children to contribute to a fund to house such youngsters in community facilities.
The young refugees are only part of a large number of Jews now arriving in France. According to unconfirmed reports here, the number of such refugees arriving in France has now reached 40,000 with many more due to follow in the coming weeks.
