The return to the Jewish community of the former synagogue in the town of Offenbach vas demanded today at a meeting of the Jewish Communities in the province of Hesse. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Curt Epstein, chief of the restitution section of the Hesse denazification ministry, Dr. R. Allshoff and Max Willner.
The Offenbach synagogue was remodeled by the Nazis into a motion picture theatre and at the present time is still being used to slow films. The meeting also adopted a resolution demanding the reinstatement of the office of “Commissioner for Former Persecutes,” which was recently dissolved in Hesse, pointing out that “at a time when anti-Semitism is rising again, the state commissioner should guard justice.”
