Jews who paid a 25 percent property tax to the Nazis in 1938 as a “fine” following the assassination of Ernst vom Rath in Paris will receive a complete refund according to a decree promulgated in Greater Hesse, it was reported here today. The measure provides that persons who paid the tax or their heirs now living in Greater Hesse, must apply to the provincial finance office where, after proving that they paid the assessment, they will receive a rebate.
Jewish leaders here have requested the U.S. Army to provide additional accommodations for the large number of Jewish refugees from Eastern Europe who have arrived within recent weeks, it was learned today. Officials of the voluntary relief agencies say they are unable to properly feed, clothe and house new arrivals unless more space is obtained.
