A provisional Yad Ve’Shem Committee, set up at a meeting here, has launched an appeal asking the Jews of Germany to enter their martyred family members in the Memorial Book in Jerusalem and to have trees planted in their names in the Yad Ve’Shem Memorial Forest in Israel.
Chairman of the new body is David Treger, in the immediate post-war years president of the Central Committee of Liberated Jews and now back in Munich from Israel to help press indemnification claims of former concentration camp inmates. Other officers of the committee include Heinz Meier, newly-elected head of the Bavarian Association of Jewish Communities, as well as other Munich communal leaders and representatives from various Bavarian provincial cities.
