Dr. H.G. Van Dam, Secretary General of the Jewish Central Council in Germany, today called for the appointment of a Cabinet Minister to supervise the restitution of property and the payment of compensation to victims of Nazism, in an article in the Jewish weekly, Allgemeine Zeitung.
Dr. Van Dam outlined the slow uneven progress in the restoration of property and the compensation of Nazi victims and expressed the belief that this was not due to any political policy of ill will, but primarily because responsibility had been placed in the hands of the already overburdened Finance Ministry, rather than the Ministry of Justice or the Interior.
