The Central Council of Jews in Germany blasted last night the return of leading Nazis to public office and high places in West German life. At the concluding session of a two-day meeting, Heinz Galinski, president of the Council’s board, urged close watch on the return of former Nazis to public office and wide campaign of publicizing such developments.
The council also urged coordination of restitution procedures among the West German states and West Berlin. Complaints were voiced that this state of affairs had caused delays in implementation of restitution legislation. It was decided to ask Parliament to permit the establishment of an advisory commission on restitution consisting of Jewish community representatives.
Mr. Galinski reported to the parley that there were some 30,000 Jews now living in Germany with about 2,000 returning annually, chiefly from South American countries and Israel. All the Jews live in West Germany, except 1,200 in Berlin and 800 in various cities of East Germany.
