The Jewish community of Hungary must recognize that it must support its institutions by itself, Lajos Stoeckler, head of the representative body of Hungarian Jews, said here, addressing the organization’s annual meeting. He reported that the transfer of social work activities from the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee to the community had proceeded without any hitches.

Future activity of the organization must be along the lines of deepening the religious life of the community, he stated. The organization’s executive body was seeking a solution to the question of Sabbath observance, he said. Charles Jordan, representative of the Joint Distribution Committee, called upon to address the meeting, paid tribute to the loyalty and devotion of the Hungarian Jewish leaders and expressed sympathy for the fate of the Hungarian Jews.
