Jews in Italy will shortly be given the opportunity to lay claim to heirless and unclaimed Jewish property, it was indicated today.
It was revealed that the Italian Government, which is not a member of the United Nations, has formally requested permission to become a party to the Convention on the Declaration of Death of Missing Persons, which is currently in force in international relations.
The question will come up before the forthcoming UN Economic and Social Council meeting and, if permission is granted, Italy will issue certificates of death for missing persons in accordance with the convention, it was stated here today.
