The Union of Jewish Communities of Italy has protested to the Italian Government against the practice of the Fascist-created office for administration of Jewish property seized by the state during the war to charge the Jewish owners administrative costs when it returns their property to them.
In an interview with a representative of the Union and the Chief Accountant of the government, Dr. A. Balducci, it was pointed out that the Jewish community feels that the government rather than the Jewish victims should pay the administrative costs of the Egeli, the organization which administers the property.
The Union has also applied to the Ministry of Education for recognition of the Rabbinical College of Turin as an institute of higher education. Such recognition would, among other things, give students at the college a delay in serving their term of compulsory military duty until after they had completed their studies.
