Cables received here today by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency from Argentina and Brazil indicate wide response by those Jewish communities to the world-wide “Day of Fasting and Prayer” proclaimed by the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada.
The synagogues in Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro were crowded with Jews offering prayers for a speedy victory of the United Nations and for the Jewish victims of Nazi terror in Europe, the cables stated. Similar reports were received also from Mexico.
Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, was one of the Jewish leaders who observed the fast day in New York. He attended the special prayers at a Brooklyn synagogue together with Leon Gelman, president of the Mizrachi Organization of America, and Rabbi Wolf Gold, president of the World Mizrachi Organization.
