The Jewish Community Council of Kitchener-Waterloo protested to the Board of High School Education here against permitting the study of Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice” in the local high schools.
In a brief filed with the educational authorities, the Jewish organization stated it was “concerned” with the effect of that Shakespeare work on the children because of the drama’s “obvious message of racial hatred and mistrust.”
