A ceremony rededicating the Jewish community of Philadelphia to the service of mankind was held here this weekend in Congress Hall as part of Philadelphia’s observance of the tercentenary of Jewish settlement in America.
The ceremony also marked the start of the 86th year of work of the Jewish Family Service of this city. Rev. Leon H. Ejmaleh, Minister Emeritus of 200-year-old Congregation Mikveh Israel, the oldest Jewish congregation in this city, sounded a blast on the shofar to mark the beginning of the new century for American Jewry and the new year for the welfare agency. In Congress Hall George Washington and John Adams took the oath of office as the first and second Presidents, respectively, of the United States.
