Reports received here today reveal that Jews throughout Poland have been forced to hold meetings pledging their solidarity to Poland and opposing Zionism. Political observers here expect a trial of three or four Jewish Communists, replete with confessions charging Israel and Zionism with espionage against Poland, as an object lesson to Jews who may waver in their support of the Polish regime.
The Israel Government has taken no action on the arrest in Warsaw of two employees of the Israel Legation in Warsaw, pending the arrival of the official Polish note on the subject, it was learned here today. One of the arrested men, Arieh Lerner, was reported to have been assigned the task of processing visas to Israel when he worked at the legation.
Meanwhile, the Israel Foreign Ministry has been studying the Polish note declaring Minister Arieh Kubovy persona non grata. It has become clear from the study that not only has Dr. Kubovy been charged with espionage, but all employees of the Israeli legation are also accused of participating in such activities.
Dr. Kubovy, commenting today on the note of the Polish Government charging him with taking tours in Czechoslovakia “connected with espionage,” declared that his visits to synagogues and Jewish centers in Poland were made with the full knowledge of the Polish authorities, and that on some of his visits he was followed by agents of the secret service.
