Jewish residents of the town of Loukov, where the Nazis murdered more than 20,000 Jews from the surrounding area, have decided to turn over Jewish communal building in the town to the local municipality, in anticipation that all Jews will probably leave Loukov within a short time, it was reported here today.
A delegation representing the town’s Jewish community, which was received by the mayor, was assured that the municipality will undertake to maintain the Jewish cemetery in Loukov, which has in the past been severely damaged by the elements and requires the planting of trees and other measures to keep it in good repair. The mayor also promised to prevent the uncovering of the remains of the martyrs buried in the cemetery after the Jews leave town.
