Jews in Rumania who are exempt from compulsory labor service for reasons of health were notified by the Rumanian authorities that they must pay a special “Jewish military tax” before November 1, otherwise their exemptions will be cancelled, it is reported in the Bukarester Zeitung reaching here today.
The newspaper Excelsior reports that 12,279 Jewish firms in Rumania have been “Aryanized” under Premier Antonescu’s regime. Commercial training is being given to hundreds of Rumanian “Aryans” by the government for the purpose of speeding the transfer of Jewish enterprises to Rumanians, the paper said.
