1,235 pogroms against the Jewish population occurred on the territory of the former Russian Empire since 1918, according to a summary published today in the official organ of the Soviet Government “Pravda.”
70,000 Jews were killed during these pogroms. 200,000 children were left orphans, several hundred towns, villages and colonies, formerly inhabited by Jews were exterminated, countless houses, live stock and implements were burned. Five hundred thousand Jews were compelled, during this period of unrest, to flee from their native towns. The inhabitants of some places had to experience seventeen pogroms, according to the data collected by the Soviet Government.
