Jewish residents of Slovakia voiced their resentment today at the procedure established by the Slovak authorities for registration of claims for damages inflicted during the Nazi occupation.
For some unexplained reason, all Jews in Slovakia were ordered to register, whether or not they wish to file claims. Since this is very reminiscent of the forced registration of Jews by the Nazis, some Jews urged that the registration be boycotted. The Slovak Central Jewish Union, however, has decided to advise Jews to register.
An organization composed of persons who were victims of racial persecution, which has established headquarters in Bratislava, will hold its first meeting there on March 16. Representatives of the Slovak and Czechoslovak Governments are expected to attend.
The Ministry of Welfare has announced that it will solicit the advice of Jewish leaders in drafting a bill providing assistance for victims of war and fascism.
