Jews of Palestine today assembled in three huge mass-meetings at Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa to protest against restrictive measures adopted by the Palestine government to curtail Jewish immigration into the country.
Resolutions denouncing the administration’s stand on Jewish immigration and its failure to issue immigration certificates in satisfactory quantities were passed at the meetings and were incorporated into a lengthy memorandum submitted to the British government which holds the mandate for Palestine.
Prior to the recent Arab disturbances, the Palestine government had allocated 5,500 immigration certificates for a six months’ period although the Jewish Agency for Palestine had requested approximately 25,000 based on needs for labor in Palestinian industry and agriculture. Since the disturbances, the government has imposed further restrictions on Jewish immigration and has started a round-up of Jews illegally in the country.
