The Central Jewish Committees of the U.S. and British zones of Germany today voted to proclaim a fast day tomorrow as an expression of sympathy with the Exodus Jews, now en route back to Germany aboard three British transports. The action was taken in conformity with a decision of the Jewish National Council of Palestine urging the Jews of the entire world to observe a day of fast is a protest against Britain’s handling of the refugees.
Spokesmen for the committees said they were attempting to avert further demonstrations by the displaced Jews, but could not be sure of success. They also announced that all offices maintained by the organizations would be closed during the day.
