Students for George Bernard Shaw’s “Great Catherine,” spring varsity play at Long Island University. Brooklyn, were selected yesterday by Harry Hamilton, dramatic director.
The cast includes Edna Sacks, Jane Stern, Madeline Smolin, Hartley Tendler, Marion Zalon, Louis Hirschel, Myron Teichollz and Louis Schneider.
The play will be presented as a feature of commencement activities.
HARTWIG’S COMPANY
Walter Hartwig’s Company at Ogunquit this summer will include Florence Britton, Russell Gleason, young son of James and Lucille Gleason and himself an established picture actor; William Hopper, son of deWolf and Hedda Hopper, who comes directly from Hollywood; Jean Stephenson, the daughter of Henry Stephenson, and who comes from four years with Dullin in Paris; Blanche Ring, Hilda Spong, Fay Marbe, Daisy Atherton, C. Croker-King, A. J. Herbert and other members of the Manhattan Repertory Theatre Company which has been kept intact with mostly the same actors for the past five years.
Mr. Hartwig’s season will last ten weeks, opening with “Big Hearted Herbert” on July 2. Four new plays will be tried out during the season, and besides several recent Broadway successes there will be a revival of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.”
