Jews in Saarbruecken abstained from showing themselves in the streets of the city today during the parades and celebrations arranged in connection with Hitler’s arrival to officially take over the Saar from the League of Nations.

Despite a pouring rain, the city looked like an armed camp with more than 10,000 uniformed Storm Troopers marching and with thousands of uniformed Reichswehr soldiers crowding the streets.

Simultaneously with the enthusiastic scenes in this city, several hundred refugees from the Saar, including many Jews, left last night for France. They were sympathetically received by the French border authorities in Forbach and were put in a special train for Bordeaux.

WILL MOVE TO REICH

An investigation conducted by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in Saarbruecken shows that many Jewish families are prepared to move from the Saar into Germany as soon as the border between the Saar and the Reich is obliterated. Many Saar Jews who have relatives in Germany are liquidating their businesses here to join their relatives for permanent settlement in Germany. It is believed that Jewish moving on a large scale from Saar to Germany will be started as soon as the passport differences are abolished.

Many Jews in the Saar who are citizens of East European countries will probably be compelled to return to their native lands, though officially they will be put under the consulates representing their native lands in Germany. While making no difficulties for them in the Saar for the first few weeks of the Nazi regime there, the Nazi authorities will refuse to prolong their residential permits on the same grounds as the prolongation of these permits has been refused to East European Jews in Germany, it is believed here.
