Jews Mourn As Dr. Levin is Buried

Thousands this afternoon attended the funeral of Shmarya Levin, the veteran Zionist leader, who died suddenly last night in Haifa. He was buried here today.

A personal representative of Sir Arthur Wauchope, the High Commissioner of Palestine who was a close friend, was present at the funeral. The Tel Aviv police provided a guard of honor.

No eulogies were delivered at the funeral. Dr. Levin was buried beside the grave of Chaim Nachman Bialik, the Hebrew national poet.

HAIFA BUSINESS AT HALT

Work in Haifa was suspended in the morning in all Jewish institutions, when the body of Dr. Levin was taken by special train to this city. All Jewish shops in Haifa were closed during the funeral procession.

Throngs of Jews awaited the arrival of the body at the railway station here. The coffin was taken from the station at two o’clock in the afternoon and placed in state for three hours at the Ohel Shem where thousands passed to pay a final tribute to the Zionist leader.

CITY ARRANGES RITES

A special committee was appointed by the Tel Aviv Municipal Council to arrange the funeral which started at five o’clock in the afternoon.

Representatives of all central Jewish institutions in Palestine participated in the funeral. Dr. Levin was buried in accordance with the Jewish religious ritual.

Dr. Levin died at 8:15 o’clock last evening in Ley’s Sanatorium in Haifa during a -visit to a friend there. The entire morning he had felt in excellent spirits. His death came from a heart attack.
