Sunday, Oct. 9 Chicago day, the Jews of this city and the members of the Jewish Historical Society of Illinois will celebrate the dedication of a memorial tablet in what is now Lincoln park, marking the location of the first Jewish cemetery in lilinois and the entire Northwest in 1847.
Eighty years ago, a group of men bought from the city a tract of land for the sum of $40 and converted it into a Beth Hakvorath. It was the first corporate step of the Jews of Chicago, acting in unison for the entire Jewish community. Through the courtesy of David H. Jackson, president of the Liough Park commissioners, arrangment an now under way to make this historical event: memorable one in the annals of the Jewish community of Chicago. Governor Len Small will be one of the guests of honor. as will be Mayor William Hak Thompson. State Senator John Dailey of Peoria, an ambority on early Illinois history. will make the principal address.
