A festive ceremony marking the celebration of 2,000 years of history in the Jewish community in Cochin, India, took place in a local synagogue, attended by the Maharajah of Cochin.
The synagogue where the ceremony took place was built 400 years ago on land next to the Royal Palace granted for that purpose by the Maharajah’s ancestors. It is famous throughout India and is visited by persons of all races and creeds. Jews have been living in the Maharajah’s territory since the beginning of the Christian era.
