An emergency conference of Jewish communities throughout the province of Hesse, in the United States zone, this week-end protested to the state Ministry of Finance against its plans to turn over the administration of the General Claims Law, which indemnifies victims of the Nazis, to the provincial Property Control Office. The Jews assert that the Property Control Office is influenced by former Nazis and anti-Semites.
At the same time, the conference protested against a decision by the Hesse Finance Minister, Werner Hilpert, to out the restitution fund from which claims are paid by 25,000,000 marks. Resolutions embodying these sentiments were sent to Hesse Premier W. Stock and Minister of the Interior Heinrich Ziankamn.
