As a result of the general economic situation which has hit Greek Jews with especial force, the Salonica Jewish community organization is in a serious situation, facing an indebtedness of 6,000,000 drachma (abous $57,600 at current exchange), Leon Carnaty, president of the community, revealed here at a press conference.
The financial plight of the community organization, Carnaty said, is especially serious in view of the general poverty of the Jewish community and the heavy burden of emergency relief put upon it.
