Leading German political personalities greeted the Jews of Germany on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah. Heading the list was Bonn President The odor Heuss, who singled out for special congratulatory mention the Leo Baeck Institute which has undertaken a project to record the history of German Jewry.
Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, in his message to the Jews on the High Holy Days, expressed the hope that “the shadows of the past” would soon be forgotten. Similar sentiments were voiced by members of the Federal Cabinet and leaders of provincial governments.
