Rabbis and synagogue groups throughout the country are urging Jews not to celebrate New Year’s Eve with traditional parties, in violation of the Sabbath. New Year’s Eve will fall on a Friday night.
The latest rabbinical group to issue such an appeal was the Board of Rabbis of Essex County, New Jersey, which called for the observance of “self-discipline” and the maintenance of “our high standards of self-respect” by not holding or attending such parties.
