Making it clear that only Jews with capital will be permitted to settle in Albania, D. Beratti, Minister for National Economy, issued a statement today in which he declares that the Albanian government “will carefully examine every request coming from Jews desirous of investing capital in agricultural and industrial enterprises in Albania.”
The laws of Albania, it was explained here, forbid the acquisition of land by foreigners.
Inquiry was made from here of the Albanian Minister in Salonica in connection with a report that he had extended an invitation to Jewish refugees on behalf of the Albanian government to come to Albania. The Minister replied that no such invitation had been made, explaining that he only answered written questions submitted to him by a correspondent as to whether German-Jewish refugees would be admitted into Albania. His answer to these questions carried no reference to Jews, the Minister’s explanation states.
