The Jewish National Fund is this year reclaiming an area of 4100 dunams on the Golan Heights. In addition, is it carrying out drainage work and building of water storage dams at a cost of IL 2 million.
At the request of the Housing Ministry, the JNF is reclaiming some 1200 dunams on the central plateau of the Heights for construction and farming purposes for the village of Tel Zayit where the first 43 family units are now being built. Similar projects are underway throughout the plateau.
The JNF last winter, stored some 3.2 million cubic meters of water in the artificial Hital storage lake, which provides irrigation water for several Jewish settlements on the Heights. To prevent seepage losses, the lake’s bottom and sides have been reinforced with hewn stones.
