Dr. Leonid Tarassuk, a Russian-Jewish specialist on arms and armor who was recently dismissed from his post as Curator of arms at Leningrad’s Hermitage Museum, has a job waiting for Him at the National Maritime Museum in Haifa when he arrives in Israel, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned today. Tarassuk was granted an exit visa and was reported to be leaving for Israel with his family July 11.
Fabian Kolker, of Baltimore, who has been active on behalf of Soviet Jews, told the JTA that he learned of the position awaiting Tarassuk from the Haifa museum’s director. Arie Ben Eli. Tarassuk was fired after he applied for a visa. The subsequent granting of a visa to the specialist, his wife, mother and two daughters is believed to have been the result of intervention on their behalf by prominent persons all over the world.
