The number of unemployed Jewish singers and musicians in Germany increased from 1,881 in 1936 to 2,600 this year, the Jewish Culture League reported today. This was largely due to the classification of “half-Jews” as Jews, and the league was obliged to accept them as members although many are Protestants and Catholics by faith.
The league reported increasingly difficult conditions since concerts can be performed only in Jewish halls, which have a limited number of seats, and because of the increasing poverty of many of the league’s supporters.
