Chairman Johnson, father of the new House immigration bill admitted to the represent active of the J. T. A. today that it was unlikely that this bill would pass at this session of Congress.
Johnson stated he is closely watching the situation and although no rule giving precedence to his measure had been granted as yet by the House Rules Committee he can get one when he desires. There are seven measures which have been granted precedence to the immigration bill, he said. In that event, there may be time for action on the immigration measure and he may seek the rule which will give it consideration.
A report appearing in a New York daily that leaders in Congress had decided to oppose the bill was characterized as untrue by Johnson.
