Join Boycott, Catholics Told by Untermyer

Urging Catholics “as a body” to join in the united boycott against Germany, Samuel Untermyer, president of the World Non-Sectarian Anti-Nazi Council, yesterday emphasized that a concerted campaign of this nature is “the only effective weapon” which will eventually “result in a restoration of their rights to the oppressed German racial, religious and political minorities.”

Reports from Germany, “day by day for over two years,” Mr. Untermyer said in an interview, have “become more and more alarming, culminating in Monday’s atrocities upon the unfortunate Jews of Berlin.” Monday night’s occurrences are but “the opening assaults upon the Jews throughout the country,” he asserted.

“And yet it is only a few weeks since we were told by high German officials that these atrocities were over, and almost the following day they were proven false and new indignities added,” he continued.
